Claims that develop from a structured dataset or database of some kind will link to a reference with the "data source" property. This generally denotes that some type of software process was built to operate on either a one-time or recurring basis to process the data source into items and/or claims. Data source properties always link to an item where the source is documented to include links to the various way a source can be accessed. Qualifiers may be included with data source references, recording something specific about the connection or how it was processed in order to produce a given claim. A data source reference on an instance of or subclass of claim often indicates the foundational source for the subject item as one or both of these basic statements are required for all items.
