Past study interests have included water availability and water supply, drought monitoring, and the impacts of sea level rise on shallow groundwater.  He serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Maryland Water Monitoring Council. From his previous experience in water-resource planning, regulation, and management, Mat maintains an interest in how science can support and inform sound resource policy decisions at all levels of government.",
