       "abstract": "Tom Kimball is a native Californian who grew up enjoying the vast and diverse natural resources of California and Nevada. He has conducted field and laboratory research in a diversity of western ecosystems including lakes, rivers, marine, estuarine, and alpine environments, among others. His early work included environmental toxicology and water quality research, with a focus on surface waters, and understanding the biogeochemistry of mercury methylation in the San Francisco Bay-Delta. He later assisted with water quality and water rights-related research and policy for the California State Water Resources Control Board. With the USGS Western Ecological Research Center, Tom helps manage and support ongoing science research for Federal, State, and other partners."
