The bottom of the root zone is the estimated maximum depth below ground surface affected by evapo- transpiration. In many field applications, net infiltration below the bottom of the root zone can be assumed to equal net recharge to an underlying water-table aquifer. The daily water balance simulated by INFIL3.0 includes precipitation as either rain or snow; snowfall accumulation, sublimation, and snowmelt; infiltration into the root zone; evapotranspiration from the root zone; drainage and water-content redistribution within the root-zone profile; surface-water runoff from, and run-on to, adjacent grid cells; and net infiltration across the bottom of the root zone.The water-balance model uses daily climate records of precipitation and air temperature and a spatially distributed representation of drainage-basin characteristics defined by topography, geology, soils, and vegetation to simulate daily net infiltration at all locations, including stream channels with intermittent streamflow in response to runoff from rain and snowmelt. The model does not simulate streamflow originating as ground-water discharge. Drainage- basin characteristics are represented in the model by a set of spatially distributed input variables uniquely assigned to each grid cell of a model grid." }, { "@type": "TextObject", "additionalType": "short description", "abstract": "Model item published in 2008-06-19 sourced from the USGS Model Catalog" } ], "wbi:claims": [ { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "item", "alternateName": "instance of", "name": "Model", "propertyID": "P1", "value": "Q13", "disambiguatingDescription": "append" }, { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "time", "alternateName": "publication date", "name": "2008-06-19", "propertyID": "P7", "precision": 9, "disambiguatingDescription": "add reference", "value": "+2008-06-19T00:00:00Z" }, { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "item", "alternateName": "author", "name": "Joseph A Hevesi", "propertyID": "P102", "value": "Q46714", "disambiguatingDescription": "add reference" }, { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "item", "alternateName": "addresses subject", "name": "groundwater", "propertyID": "P94", "value": "Q159166", "disambiguatingDescription": "add reference" }, { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "item", "alternateName": "addresses subject", "name": "water budget", "propertyID": "P94", "value": "Q159330", "disambiguatingDescription": "add reference" }, { "@type": "PropertyValue", "additionalType": "item", "alternateName": "subject of", "name": "10.3133/sir20085006", "propertyID": "P218", "value": "Q65748", "disambiguatingDescription": "add reference" } ], "isBasedOn": "https://data.usgs.gov/modelcatalog/model/16cdd7ab-28e7-46e3-bf15-5f23077ee59e", "additionalType": "Model", "about": [ { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "other keyword", "name": "surface water" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "other keyword", "name": "infiltration" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "other keyword", "name": "groundwater recharge" } ] }
