"description": "This data release contains geophysical and water-quality property data measured by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) along downstream continuous profiles in surveyed reaches of Elm Brook, Hartwell Brook, and the Shawsheen River near Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts. The geophysical data consist of spatial profiles of waterborne self-potential (WaSP) voltages attributed to changes in electrical potential along the respective reaches of each stream. The water-quality data consist of spatial profiles of temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, pH, and optical dissolved-oxygen concentration measured in situ in the streams on September 8 and September 10, 2023. A 190-meter (m) long reach of Hartwell Brook was surveyed by attaching two WaSP electrodes and a multi-parameter water-quality sonde (QW sonde) to the bottom of a small wooden raft that was floated and steered downstream by using ropes . A 2.06-kilometer (km) long reach of Elm Brook was surveyed on September 9, 2023, by using the same raft deployment, and a 1.4-km long reach of the Shawsheen River was surveyed on September 11, 2023, by attaching the WaSP electrodes and QW sonde to the end of a kayak; one person floated and paddled the kayak downstream. The combined WaSP and water-quality property datasets consist of 6,793 measurements of WaSP voltages and surface-water temperature, specific conductance, turbidity, pH, and optical dissolved oxygen, and the geospatial coordinates of each measurement.",
