   "abstract": "Yosemite toads (Bufo canorus) are endemic to the Sierra Nevada, California, from Ebbetts Pass, Alpine County to the Spanish Mountain area, Fresno County (Karlstrom 1962, 1973; \nStebbins 1966; unpublished Sierra National \nForest survey data, 1995, 2002). Sites occur \nfrom 1,950\u20133,444 m elevation, with the \nmajority of sites between 2,590\u20133,048 m \n(Karlstrom, 1962). Jennings and Hayes \n(1994a) estimate that populations have \ndisappeared from 50% of historically reported \nsites, although the overall range of the species \nmay have only contracted in the far north and \nin western Fresno County. Disappearances \nhave been concentrated at lower elevation sites \non the western edge of the range, with greater \npersistence at higher elevation sites (Davidson \net al., 2002).",
