To explore the history of earthquakes on the northern Teton fault, we hand\u2010excavated two trenches at the Steamboat Mountain site, where the east\u2010dipping Teton fault has vertically displaced west\u2010sloping alluvial\u2010fan surfaces. The trenches exposed glaciofluvial, alluvial\u2010fan, and scarp\u2010derived colluvial sediments and stratigraphic and structural evidence of two surface\u2010rupturing earthquakes (SM1 and SM2). A Bayesian geochronologic model for the site includes three optically stimulated luminescence ages (\u2060\u223c12\u201317\u2009\u2009ka\u2060) for the glaciofluvial units and 16 radiocarbon ages (\u2060\u223c1.2\u20138.6\u2009\u2009ka\u2060) for the alluvial\u2010fan and colluvial units and constrains SM1 and SM2 to\u00a05.5\u00b10.2\u2009\u2009ka,\u20091\u03c3\u00a0(5.2\u20135.9\u00a0ka, 95%) and\u00a09.7\u00b10.9\u2009\u2009ka,\u20091\u03c3\u00a0(8.5\u201311.5\u00a0ka, 95%), respectively. Structural, stratigraphic, and geomorphic relations yield vertical displacements for SM1 (\u20602.0\u00b10.6\u2009\u2009m,\u20091\u03c3\u2060) and SM2 (\u20602.0\u00b11.0\u2009\u2009m,\u20091\u03c3\u2060). The Steamboat Mountain paleoseismic chronology overlaps temporally with earthquakes interpreted from previous terrestrial and lacustrine paleoseismic data along the fault. Integrating these data, we infer that the youngest Teton fault rupture occurred at\u00a0\u223c5.3\u2009\u2009ka\u2060, generated\u00a01.7\u00b11.0\u2009\u2009m,\u20091\u03c3\u00a0of vertical displacement along 51\u201370\u00a0km of the fault, and had a moment magnitude (\u2060Mw\u2060) of\u00a0\u223c7.0\u20137.2\u2060. This rupture was apparently unimpeded by structural complexities along the Teton fault. The integrated chronology permits a previous full\u2010length rupture at\u00a0\u223c10\u2009\u2009ka\u00a0and possible partial ruptures of the fault at\u00a0\u223c8\u20139\u2009\u2009ka\u2060. To reconcile conflicting terrestrial and lacustrine paleoseismic data, we propose a hypothesis of alternating full\u2010 and partial\u2010length ruptures of the Teton fault, including\u00a0Mw\u223c6.5\u20137.2\u00a0earthquakes every\u00a0\u223c1.2\u2009\u2009ky\u2060.
