Extrapolation of this entropy value to end-member monticellite results in an\u00a0S0298\u00a0= 108.1 \u00b1 0.2\u00a0J\u00a0\u00b7\u00a0mol\u22121K\u22121. High-temperature heat-capacity data were measured between 340\u20131000 K with a differential scanning calorimeter. The high-temperature data were combined with the 290\u2013350 K adiabatic values, extrapolated to 1700 K, and integrated to yield the following entropy equation for end-member monticellite (298\u20131700 K):\u00a0ST0(J\u00a0\u00b7\u00a0mol\u22121K\u22121) =\u00a0S2980\u00a0+ 164.79 In\u00a0T\u00a0+ 15.337 \u00b7 10\u22123T\u00a0+ 22.791 \u00b7 105T\u22122\u00a0\u2212 968.94. Phase equilibria in the CaO-MgO-SiO2\u00a0system were calculated from 973 to 1673 K and 0 to 12 kbar with these new data combined with existing data for akermanite (Ak), diopside (Di), forsterite (Fo), merwinite (Me) and wollastonite (Wo). The location of the calculated reactions involving the phases\u00a0Mo\u00a0and\u00a0Fo\u00a0is affected by their mutual solid solution. A best fit of the thermodynamically generated curves to all experiments is made when the\u00a0S0298\u00a0of\u00a0Me\u00a0is 250.2 J \u00b7 mol\u22121\u00a0K\u22121\u00a0less than the measured value of 253.2 J \u00b7 mol\u22121\u00a0K\u22121.A best fit to the reversals for the solid-solid and decarbonation reactions in the CaO-MgO-SiO2-CO2\u00a0system was obtained with the\u00a0\u0394G0298\u00a0(kJ\u00a0\u00b7\u00a0mole\u22121) for the phases\u00a0Ak(\u22123667),\u00a0Di(\u22123025),\u00a0Fo(\u22122051),\u00a0Me(\u22124317) and\u00a0Mo(\u22122133). The two invariant points \u2212\u00a0Wo\u00a0and \u2212Fo\u00a0for the solid-solid reactions are located at 1008 \u00b1 5 K and 6.3 \u00b1 0.1 kbar, and 1361 \u00b1 10 K and 10.2 \u00b1 0.2 kbar respectively.
