"abstract": "The recent measurements of the\u00a0elastic\u00a0constants of calcite by Reddy and Subrahmanyam (1960) disagree with the values obtained independently by Voigt (1910) and Bhimasenachar (1945). The present authors, using an\u00a0ultrasonic\u00a0pulse technique at 3 Mc and 25\u00b0C, determined the\u00a0elastic\u00a0constants of calcite using the exact\u00a0equations\u00a0governing the\u00a0wave\u00a0velocities\u00a0in the\u00a0single crystal.\u00a0The results are\u00a0C11=13.7,\u00a0C33=8.11,\u00a0C44=3.50,\u00a0C12=4.82,\u00a0C13=5.68, and\u00a0C14=\u22122.00, in units of 1011\u00a0dyn/cm2. Independent checks of several of the\u00a0elastic\u00a0constants were made employing other directions and\u00a0polarizations\u00a0of the\u00a0wave\u00a0velocities.\u00a0With the exception of\u00a0C13, these values substantially agree with the data of Voigt and Bhimasenachar.",
