Runoff from impervious surfaces in urban settings can result in changes to water temperature and can introduce contaminants to river systems. Water temperature and contaminants can affect availability of aquatic habitat according to aquatic species tolerance to potential stress. Increasing human populations can also result in increased wastewater-based chemical loads and nutrients that may affect biological and chemical processes in aquatic ecosystems. At the USGS, Oregon Water Science Center Anne works on multi-disciplinary science teams that quantify stormwater and wastewater inputs to aquatic ecosystems in order to prioritize mitigation and improve aquatic habitats.Anne's 21 years of federal service have included work as an aquatic ecologist, habitat manager, and researcher. Throughout her work for land-management agencies, Anne has focused on effectiveness monitoring of aquatic habitat restoration and using aquatic species as indicators of aquatic ecosystem health. Over the course of her career, Anne has managed 6 major field-sampling campaigns in the Great Lakes, Southern Appalachians, and Mid-Atlantic Regions, including 130 stream, lake, and coastal estuary sites.", "additionalType": "personal statement" } ], "email": "atimm@usgs.gov", "hasCredential": [ { "@type": "EducationalOccupationalCredential", "name": "PhD in Fisheries, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia" }, { "@type": "EducationalOccupationalCredential", "name": "MS Environmental Science, Water Resources, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana" }, { "@type": "EducationalOccupationalCredential", "name": "BA, Biology, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa" }, { "@type": "EducationalOccupationalCredential", "name": "Level I Conservation Planner Certification, September 30, 2022" } ], "hasOccupation": [ { "@type": "OrganizationalRole", "affiliatedOrganization": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Oregon Water Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/oregon-water-science-center" }, "roleName": "Water-Quality Specialist", "startDate": "2024-05-12T14:24:14.323638" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "Water-Quality Specialist, Oregon Water Science Center, 2024 to present" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "Water Resources and Wetlands Planner, USDA-NRCS, 2021-2024" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "Supervisory Ecologist, Promotional Detail, US Geological Survey, MD-DE-DC Water Science Center, March-July, 2020" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "Research Ecologist, USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, 2011-2021" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "USDA Forest Service, Research Scientist in Training, 2006-2011" }, { "@type": "Occupation", "additionalType": "self-claimed professional experience", "name": "Ecologist, USDA Forest Service, Hoosier National Forest, 2002-2006" } ], "identifier": [ { "@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "GeoKB", "value": "https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q166063" } ], "jobTitle": "Water-Quality Specialist", "knowsAbout": [ { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "self-claimed expertise", "name": "Urban land cover change and stormwater effects on water temperature" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "self-claimed expertise", "name": "Bioaccumulation of UV filters, hormones, and pharmaceuticals (CECs) in aquatic and coastal species" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "self-claimed expertise", "name": "Genetic analysis for stream fish habitat management" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "self-claimed expertise", "name": "Water level change effects on littoral zone aquatic ecosystems" }, { "@type": "Thing", "additionalType": "self-claimed expertise", "name": "Role of evapotranspiration in wetland hydrology" } ], "memberOf": { "@type": "OrganizationalRole", "member": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey" }, "name": "staff member", "startDate": "2024-05-12T14:24:14.321106" }, "name": "Anne Timm", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/anne-timm" }, "status_code": "200" }
