     "abstract": "The use of fluorescent dyes and tracing techniques provides\r\na means for measuring the time-of-travel and dispersion\r\ncharacteristics of steady and gradually varied flow in\r\nstreams. Measurements of the dispersion and concentration\r\nof dyes give insight into the behavior of soluble contaminants\r\nthat may be introduced into a stream.\r\nThis manual describes methods of measuring time of\r\ntravel of water and waterborne solutes by dye tracing. The\r\nfluorescent dyes, measuring equipment used, and the field\r\nand laboratory procedures are also described.\r\nMethods of analysis and presentation to illustrate time-oftravel\r\nand dispersion characteristics of streams are provided.",
