The model was developed with the Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) and was designed to allow simulation of proposed or hypothetical land-use changes, best-management practices (BMPs), and instream stormwater-detention basins such that their effects on flows and loads of suspended sediment, orthophosphate, total phosphorus, ammonia, organic nitrogen, and nitrate could be analyzed. Extreme weather conditions, such as intense storms and prolonged droughts, can be simulated through manipulation of the precipitation record. Model results obtained from different scenarios can then be compared and analyzed through an interactive computer program known as Generation and Analysis of Model Simulation Scenarios for Watersheds (GenScn). Background information on HSPF and GenScn is presented to familiarize the user with these two programs. Step-by-step examples are provided on (1) the creation of land-use, BMP, and stormflow-detention scenarios for simulation by the HSPF model, and (2) the analysis of simulation results through GenScn.", "description": "vi, 27 p.", "publisher": {"@type": "Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "author": [{"@type": "Person", "name": "Coon, William F. wcoon@usgs.gov", "givenName": "William F.", "familyName": "Coon", "email": "wcoon@usgs.gov", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-7007-7797", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7007-7797"}, "affiliation": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "New York Water Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/new-york-water-science-center"}]}], "funder": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "New York Water Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/new-york-water-science-center"}], "spatialCoverage": [{"@type": "Place", "additionalType": "country", "name": "United States", "url": "https://geonames.org/6252001"}, {"@type": "Place", "additionalType": "state", "name": "New York", "url": "https://geonames.org/5128638"}, {"@type": "Place", "additionalType": "state", "name": "Onondaga County", "url": "https://geonames.org/5129867"}, {"@type": "Place", "additionalType": "unknown", "name": "Onondaga Lake basin"}, {"@type": "Place", "geo": [{"@type": "GeoShape", "additionalProperty": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "name": "GeoJSON", "value": {"type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [{"type": "Feature", "properties": {}, "geometry": {"type": "Polygon", "coordinates": [[[-76.37557983398438, 42.807491865911544], [-76.08993530273438, 42.807491865911544], [-76.08993530273438, 43.068887774169625], [-76.37557983398438, 43.068887774169625], [-76.37557983398438, 42.807491865911544]]]}}]}}}, {"@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": 42.938189820040584, "longitude": -76.23275756835938}]}]}
