This map is one in a series of U.S. Geological Survey/Afghanistan Geological Survey quadrangle maps covering Afghanistan.\n\nFlown at an altitude of 50,000 feet (15,240 meters (m)), the HyMap\u2122 imaging spectrometer measured reflected sunlight in 128 channels, covering wavelengths between 0.4 and 2.5 \u03bcm. The data were georeferenced, atmospherically corrected and converted to apparent surface reflectance, empirically adjusted using ground-based reflectance measurements, and combined into a mosaic with 23-m pixel spacing. Variations in water vapor and dust content of the atmosphere, in solar angle, and in surface elevation complicated correction; therefore, some classification differences may be present between adjacent flight lines.\n\nThe reflectance spectrum of each pixel of HyMap\u2122 imaging spectrometer data was compared to the reference materials in a spectral library of minerals, vegetation, water, and other materials. Minerals occurring abundantly at the surface and those having unique spectral features were easily detected and discriminated, while minerals having slightly different compositions but similar spectral features were less easily discriminated; thus, some map classes consist of several minerals having similar spectra, such as \u201cGoethite and jarosite.\u201d A designation of \u201cNot classified\u201d was assigned to the pixel when there was no match with reference spectra.", "description": "37 x 23 inches", "publisher": {"@type": "Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey"}, "author": [{"@type": "Person", "name": "Hoefen, Todd M. thoefen@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Todd M.", "familyName": "Hoefen", "email": "thoefen@usgs.gov", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-3083-5987", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3083-5987"}, "affiliation": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/geology-energy-and-minerals-science-center"}, {"@type": "Organization", "name": "Central Mineral and Environmental Resources Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/gggsc"}]}, {"@type": "Person", "name": "Johnson, Michaela R. mrjohns@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Michaela R.", "familyName": "Johnson", "email": "mrjohns@usgs.gov", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0001-6133-0247", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6133-0247"}, "affiliation": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "Texas Water Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/oklahoma-texas-water-science-center"}, {"@type": "Organization", "name": "Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/geology-energy-and-minerals-science-center"}, {"@type": "Organization", "name": "Central Mineral and Environmental Resources Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/gggsc"}]}, {"@type": "Person", "name": "Giles, Stuart A. sgiles@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Stuart A.", "familyName": "Giles", "email": "sgiles@usgs.gov", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-8696-5078", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8696-5078"}, "affiliation": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "Central Mineral and Environmental Resources Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/gggsc"}, {"@type": "Organization", "name": "Mineral Resources Program", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/programs/mineral-resources-program"}]}, {"@type": "Person", "name": "Livo, Keith E. elivo@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Keith E.", "familyName": "Livo", "email": "elivo@usgs.gov", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0001-7331-8130", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7331-8130"}, "affiliation": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/geology-energy-and-minerals-science-center"}]}, {"@type": "Person", "name": "King, Trude V.V.", "givenName": "Trude V.V.", "familyName": "King"}, {"@type": "Person", "name": "Kokaly, Raymond F.", "givenName": "Raymond F.", "familyName": "Kokaly", "identifier": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0003-0276-7101", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0003-0276-7101"}}], "funder": [{"@type": "Organization", "name": "Crustal Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/geology-energy-and-minerals-science-center"}], "spatialCoverage": [{"@type": "Place", "additionalType": "country", "name": "Afghanistan", "url": "https://geonames.org/1149361"}, {"@type": "Place", "geo": [{"@type": "GeoShape", "additionalProperty": {"@type": "PropertyValue", "name": "GeoJSON", "value": {"type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [{"type": "Feature", "properties": {}, "geometry": {"type": "Polygon", "coordinates": [[[70.0, 35.0], [70.0, 36.0], [72.0, 36.0], [72.0, 35.0], [70.0, 35.0]]]}}]}}}, {"@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": 35.5, "longitude": 71.0}]}]}
