'@context': https://schema.org '@type': Person affiliation: [] description: - '@type': TextObject abstract: Water Quality Specialist - Hydrologist with the New York Water Science Center additionalType: short description - '@type': TextObject abstract: Intro additionalType: staff profile page introductory statement - '@type': TextObject abstract: Shawn began working at the USGS New York Water Science Center as a student in May, 2002 collecting and interpreting groundwater and surface water-quality data. Studies include contaminants of emerging concern in public supply wells, groundwater contamination in nearshore waters, assessing sediment and water for insecticide contamination in untargeted wetlands, and evaluating real-time water quality data. He has worked in a variety of land use settings, from urban to agricultural, and helped organize and develop environmental health studies following Hurricane Sandy. Shawn was the network coordinator for the Sediment-bound Contaminant Resiliency and Response (SCoRR) study and leads the Northeast Region Urban Landscapes Capability Team (ULCT). Current research includes qualification and quantification of microplastics in the Northeast region and interest in per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in groundwater and surface waters.Education:-PhDin Chemistry--Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, N.Y.) from 2004-2012-BSin Natural Science and Math--Dowling College (Oakdale, N.Y.) from 2000-2004 additionalType: personal statement email: scfisher@usgs.gov hasCredential: [] hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: New York Water Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/new-york-water-science-center roleName: Water Quality Specialist - Hydrologist startDate: '2024-05-12T16:21:03.550872' identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q46083 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0001-6324-1061 jobTitle: Water Quality Specialist - Hydrologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: groundwater - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: groundwater quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: surface water quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: sediment quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: contaminants of emerging concern - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: geochemistry - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: water chemistry - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: water resources - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: hydrology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: microplastics memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T16:21:03.548095' name: Shawn C.
