Dr. English served the Department of Defense (DoD) as\ \ a technical advisor for arthropod-borne disease ecology and IVM. Most recently,\ \ Dr. English served the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences\ \ (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland as a faculty member and Principle Investigator\ \ in USU\u2019s Vector Biology Lab and Director of USU\u2019s Public Health\ \ GIS Lab.Dr. English has headed and assisted in developing programs designed\ \ to manage vector-borne diseases (Malaria, West Nile Virus, Leishmaniasis,\ \ Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika) at National and International scales. He has\ \ worked as a Navy Medical Entomologist in the States and abroad under a wide\ \ variety of conditions including emergency contingencies and theatres of combat.\ \ While serving the US Navy as a Military Entomologist, he initiated and directed\ \ the US Navy West Nile Virus Surveillance and Control Program and has travelled\ \ extensively through world to collect epidemiological information on infectious\ \ diseases of military importance. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, he assumed\ \ responsibility for maintaining ecological stability while initiating an IVM\ \ program for a large part of Iraq that included the control of infectious diseases\ \ by controlling sand flies that can transmit Leishmaniasis, mosquitoes that\ \ can transmit Malaria and snails that can transmit Schistosomiasis.Since leaving\ \ Active Duty, Dr. English has held academic appointments and leadership positions\ \ at four US Universities and a DoD public health community. In those various\ \ institutions, he has served as Assistant Director of the University of Notre\ \ Dame Environmental Research Center, Academic Director of an applied science\ \ Institute, Department Chair of an undergraduate program, Program Manager and\ \ senior authority for a community of applied-science military-medical professionals,\ \ and engaged undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate student scientists in\ \ conducting research in plant and animal ecology, invasive and endangered species\ \ research, vector and pathogen ecology, applied and sustainability science,\ \ resource use and natural history.From 2013 - 2018, Dr. English served at the\ \ US Navy Entomology Center of Excellence as head of the US Navy\u2019s Medical\ \ Entomology Training Programs, a position that included development and management\ \ of all US Navy Medical Entomology education & training conducted at 10 schoolhouses\ \ worldwide.While working with the Department of Defense, Dr. English has worked\ \ with many US Allied Nations to assess or build National IVM and One Health\ \ programs and integrate them into existing public health infrastructure.
