Kraus is a Research Ecologist at the Columbia Environmental Research Center. additionalType: staff profile page introductory statement - '@type': TextObject abstract: She studies effects of anthropogenic stressors on food webs, biodiversity and environmental health in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. She began her career with the USGS in 2011 researching how trace metals from acid rock drainage impact adult aquatic insect emergence and contaminant flux to terrestrial insectivores near mountain streams. Since then, her research has uncovered when and where contaminants may impact aquatic and terrestrial food webs using large empirical field studies, laboratory manipulations and conceptual modelling. Dr. Kraus received her B.A. in Biology from Brown University and Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Virginia. additionalType: personal statement email: jkraus@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: Ph.D., Biology, University of Virginia, 2006 - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: B.A., Biology, Brown University, honors, magna cum laude, 1998 hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Columbia Environmental Research Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/columbia-environmental-research-center roleName: Research Ecologist startDate: '2024-05-12T15:29:24.463275' - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Research Ecologist, U.S. Geological Survey, 2016 - present - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Mendenhall Research Fellow, U.S. Geological Survey 2011- 2015 - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Post-doctoral Researcher, Biology, Virginia Commonwealth University, 2007-2010 - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Visiting Assistant Professor, Biology, Washington and Lee University, 2006-2007 - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: National Science Foundation EAPSI Fellow, Japan, 2006 identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q54519 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0002-9513-4129 jobTitle: Research Ecologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: aquatic ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: benthic ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecological processes - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystem diversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystem functions - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: freshwater ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: fishery resources - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: water resources - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: surface water quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: animals - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: invertebrates - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: species diversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecotoxiology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: contaminants - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: PCBs - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: pesticides - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: metals memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T15:29:24.455317' name: Johanna Kraus, PhD url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/johanna-kraus
