personal_statement: I support research activities in the Marine Minerals Laboratory
at the Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. Our research focuses on characterizing
the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of deep-sea minerals including
seafloor massive sulfides, ferromanganese crusts, and polymetallic nodules.
I participate in oceanographic research expeditions and assist in laboratory
management, sample processing, and data analysis. Prior to the USGS, I worked
at the University of California Santa Cruz as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar,
Project Scientist, and Lecturer. There I specialized in the biogeochemical cycling
of mercury in the ocean, completed several projects on marine plastic pollution
for the National Geographic Society, and participated in four U.S. GEOTRACES
transects in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic Oceans.
