The geologic map differentiates surficial materials of Quaternary age on the basis of their lithologic characteristics (grain size, sedimentary structures, mineral and rock-particle composition), constructional geomorphic features, stratigraphic relationships, and age. Surficial earth materials significantly affect human use of the land, and an accurate description of their distribution is particularly important for water resources, construction aggregate resources, earth-surface hazards assessments, and land-use decisions. This compilation of surficial geologic materials is an interim product that defines the areas of exposed bedrock, and the boundaries between glacial till, glacial stratified deposits, and overlying postglacial deposits. This work is part of a comprehensive study to produce a statewide digital map of the surficial geology at a 1:24,000-scale level of accuracy. This report includes explanatory text (PDF), a regional map at 1:50,000 scale (PDF), quadrangle maps at 1:24,000 scale (12 PDF files), GIS data layers (ArcGIS shapefiles), scanned topographic base maps (TIF), metadata for the GIS layers, and a readme.txt file.\r\n", "description": "iii, 12 p.; maps; GIS data", "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey" }, "author": [ { "@type": "Person", "name": "Stone, Janet Radway jrstone@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Janet Radway", "familyName": "Stone", "email": "jrstone@usgs.gov", "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Eastern Geology and Paleoclimate Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/florence-bascom-geoscience-center" } ] }, { "@type": "Person", "name": "Stone, Byron D. bdstone@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Byron D.", "familyName": "Stone", "email": "bdstone@usgs.gov", "identifier": { "@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0001-6092-0798", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6092-0798" }, "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Florence Bascom Geoscience Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/florence-bascom-geoscience-center" }, { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Eastern Geology and Paleoclimate Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/florence-bascom-geoscience-center" } ] } ] } }
