Perhaps nowhere in the contiguous U.S. is this more evident than in South Florida, where millions of dollars are spent annually to monitor and control the spread of exotics such as Brazilian pepper, melaleuca, the Mexican bromeliad weevil, and Burmese python, just to name a few. With the number of established exotic species now numbering well into the hundreds in South Florida, the potential impact of invasives has emerged as a high-priority issue in planning the restoration and conservation of the Greater Everglades. However, agencies with responsibility for protecting native ecosystems in South Florida have limited resources with which to control the spread of invasive exotics. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop cost-effective monitoring programs, new control methods, and decision-support tools.", "description": "HTML Document", "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey" }, "author": [ { "@type": "Person", "name": "Johnson, Fred A. fjohnson@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Fred A.", "familyName": "Johnson", "email": "fjohnson@usgs.gov", "identifier": { "@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-5854-3695", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5854-3695" }, "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "National Wetlands Research Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/wetland-and-aquatic-research-center" }, { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Wetland and Aquatic Research Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/wetland-and-aquatic-research-center" }, { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Southeast Ecological Science Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/regions/southeast" } ] }, { "@type": "Person", "name": "Kovacs, Kaitlin kkovacs@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Kaitlin", "familyName": "Kovacs", "email": "kkovacs@usgs.gov", "identifier": { "@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-4089-434X", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4089-434X" }, "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Wetland and Aquatic Research Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/wetland-and-aquatic-research-center" } ] } ], "funder": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Wetland and Aquatic Research Center", "url": "https://www.usgs.gov/centers/wetland-and-aquatic-research-center" } ], "spatialCoverage": [ { "@type": "Place", "additionalType": "country", "name": "United States", "url": "https://geonames.org/4074035" }, { "@type": "Place", "additionalType": "state", "name": "Florida" }, { "@type": "Place", "additionalType": "unknown", "name": "Greater Everglades" }, { "@type": "Place", "geo": [ { "@type": "GeoShape", "additionalProperty": { "@type": "PropertyValue", "name": "GeoJSON", "value": { "type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [ { "type": "Feature", "properties": {}, "geometry": { "type": "Polygon", "coordinates": [ [ [ -81.8701171875, 24.886436490787688 ], [ -81.8701171875, 26.165298896316042 ], [ -80.00244140625, 26.165298896316042 ], [ -80.00244140625, 24.886436490787688 ], [ -81.8701171875, 24.886436490787688 ] ] ] } } ] } } }, { "@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": 25.52586769355187, "longitude": -80.936279296875 } ] } ] }
