We used limited available data and published demographic rates in a PVA model to predict future status of these lizards under parametric and ecological uncertainty and temporal variability. Even in cases where data are sparse and life history information are limited, viability models can help clarify the consequences of management choices given the uncertainty. Our model predicted that on average populations will decline in in the future. Quasi-extinction probability was low 20 years into the future but up to 0.60. Extinction risk was highly dependent on the road mortality effect and the proportion of the population exposed to roadways, both of which are currently uncertain quantities. Despite these unknowns, our model enables managers to consider the future abundance and extinction risk for the species and make decisions about management to project the populations and also identifies key uncertainties for future research and monitoring.", "description": "53 p.", "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "US Fish and Wildlife Service" }, "author": [ { "@type": "Person", "name": "McGowan, Conor P. cmcgowan@usgs.gov", "givenName": "Conor P.", "familyName": "McGowan", "email": "cmcgowan@usgs.gov", "identifier": { "@type": "PropertyValue", "propertyID": "ORCID", "value": "0000-0002-7330-9581", "url": "https://orcid.org/0000-0002-7330-9581" }, "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Coop Res Unit Atlanta", "url": "https://www1.usgs.gov/coopunits/unit/Georgia" } ] }, { "@type": "Person", "name": "Goode, Ashley B.C.", "givenName": "Ashley B.C.", "familyName": "Goode", "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "University of Florida" } ] }, { "@type": "Person", "name": "Allan, Nathan", "givenName": "Nathan", "familyName": "Allan", "affiliation": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "US Fish and Wildlife Service" } ] } ], "funder": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Coop Res Unit Atlanta", "url": "https://www1.usgs.gov/coopunits/unit/Georgia" } ], "spatialCoverage": [ { "@type": "Place", "additionalType": "country", "name": "United States", "url": "https://geonames.org/4074035" }, { "@type": "Place", "additionalType": "state", "name": "Texas" } ] }
