"abstract": "Thirty\u2010two accelerometers were deployed in the Livermore Valley, California, for approximately one year to study sedimentary basin effects. Many local and near\u2010regional earthquakes were recorded, including the 24 August 2014\u00a0Mw\u00a06.0 Napa, California, earthquake. The resulting ground\u2010motion data set is used to quantify the seismic response of the Livermore basin, a major structural depression in the California Coast Range Province bounded by active faults. Site response is calculated by two methods: the reference\u2010site spectral ratio method and a source\u2010site spectral inversion method. Longer\u2010period (\u22651\u2009\u2009s) amplification factors follow the same general pattern as Bouguer gravity anomaly contours. Site response spectra are inverted for shallow shear\u2010wave velocity profiles, which are consistent with independent information. Frequency\u2013wavenumber analysis is used to analyze plane\u2010wave propagation across the Livermore Valley and to identify basin\u2010edge\u2010induced surface waves with back azimuths different from the source back azimuth. Finite\u2010element simulations in a 3D velocity model of the region illustrate the generation of basin\u2010edge\u2010induced surface waves and point out strips of elevated ground velocities along the margins of the basin.",
