The purpose of this work is to help understand the hazards posed to coastal communities and infrastructure by offshore active faults and submarine landslides. additionalType: staff profile page introductory statement - '@type': TextObject abstract: I received a Bachelors Degree in Earth Science from U.C. Berkeley in 1981, and a Masters Degree in Geology from San Jose State University in 1993. I have worked at the USGS since 1981, first in the Minerals Program, where I worked to assess the potential for undiscovered mineral deposits in the western U.S., and used Argon geochronology to date mineral deposits and related igneous rocks. In 1995, I joined the Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, where I study marine geologic hazards such as earthquakes on offshore faults and tsunamis generated by submarine landslides. additionalType: personal statement email: jconrad@usgs.gov hasCredential: [] hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/pcmsc roleName: Geologist startDate: '2024-05-12T15:22:44.664257' identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q45454 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0001-6655-694X jobTitle: Geologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Marine Geology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Tectonics - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Hazards - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Earthquakes - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Tsunamis - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Landslides - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Geochronology memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T15:22:44.661581' name: James Conrad url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/james-conrad
