Chris started his career at the the USGS as a postdoc in the Mendenhall Research Fellowship Program where he studied the structure and stratigraphy of the Roberts Mountains allochthon as related to Carlin-type Au deposits. Chris was an Lecturer at the University of Vermont from 2007-2008 where he taught Introductory Geology, Petrology, and a seminar in Appalachian Geology. He also spent a year in Minneapolis as a visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota and concurrently taught Geology and Oceanography courses at North Hennepin Community College. During his Ph.D. he used detailed mapping, structural analyses and isotopic/geochemical methods to investigate the Paleozoic evolution of a backarc and associated igneous rocks in the southern Appalachians. His areas of expertise include: structure/tectonics, field mapping,in situgeochronology (SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS) and trace element geochemistry.' additionalType: personal statement email: cholm-denoma@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: Ph.D., Geological Sciences, Florida State University, 2006 - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: B.S., Geology, The George Washington University, 1998 hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/gggsc roleName: Research Geologist startDate: '2024-05-12T15:53:26.560031' identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q54280 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0003-3229-5440 jobTitle: Research Geologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: crust (earth) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: geologic structure - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: igneous rocks - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: metamorphic rocks - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: rocks and deposits - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: sedimentary rocks - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: stratigraphy - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: fracture (geologic) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: folding (geologic) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: geochemistry - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: tectonic processes - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: deformation (geologic) memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T15:53:26.557300' name: Christopher Holm-Denoma url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/christopher-holm-denoma
