I investigate how rivers, coastal erosion, and groundwater impact carbon and nitrogen cycling in the Alaska Beaufort Sea. name: Emily M. Bristol, PhD name_qualifier: null orcid: 0000-0002-6059-3771 organization_link: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/pcmsc organization_name: Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center personal_statement: I am broadly interested in biogeochemical cycling along terrestrial-aquatic-marine continuums. My current research examines the sources and fate of terrestrial organic matter in the Arctic Ocean. I use various geochemical analyses such as isotopes, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and biomarkers to characterize organic matter in soils, freshwaters, and marine sediments. These tools provide information about the sources and biodegradability of organic matter, helping us understand how terrestrial inputs impact greenhouse gas emissions and marine productivity. professional_experience: - '2024-present: Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research Fellow, USGS, Pacific Coastal & Marine Science Center, CA' - '2019-2023: Graduate Research Assistant, University of Texas Marine Science Institute, TX' - '2022: Visiting Faculty, The Polaris Project, Woodwell Climate Research Center, MA' - '2018, 2021: Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Texas at Austin, TX' - '2017-2018: Substitute Teacher, Mt.
