Mindat Short Description

Almost always in foliated masses ranging from white to beautiful bluish green. Usually found in metamorphic rocks with abundant carbonate minerals associated.

Chemically similar to Serpentine Subgroup (Mg-richer, with Mg:Si = 3:2).

Mineral name has been known since antiquity and predates any formal descriptive publication. For instance, it is mentioned in: Agricola G (1546) Talk, in De Ortu & Causis Subterraneorum Lib. V, Froben (Basileae) 480-480
