Observable entity is a higher level class in Wikidata. In working on how best to incorporate the "topics" category of the USGS Thesaurus, where we have many different kinds of things, we chose to drop them all into this classification for now, to be refined with later actions. The vast majority of USGS Thesaurus topics can loosely be described as some type of observable entity.
