His current work focuses on how microbial communities respond to inputs of produced water from unconventional oil and gas development, and how these responses can mitigate or exacerbate the risk posed by produced waters to streams and shallow aquifers.Dr. Mumford received his BS in Microbiology from the University of New Hampshire in 2003, and his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University in 2012. Prior to joining the USGS National Research Program as a Mendenhall Research Fellow in 2014, he served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, ME.For more information, please visit the Reston Biogeochemical Processes in Groundwater Laboratory and Reston Microbiology Labortory websites. additionalType: personal statement email: amumford@usgs.gov hasCredential: [] hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Water Resources Mission Area url: https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources roleName: Hydrologist startDate: '2024-05-12T15:33:49.091244' identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q54167 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0002-8082-8910 jobTitle: Hydrologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: water quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: waste treatment and disposal - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: toxic trace element contamination - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: surface water quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: mine drainage - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: industrial pollution - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: groundwater quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: contamination and pollution - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: abandoned mines and quarries - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: groundwater - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: freshwater ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecological processes - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: biodiversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: aquatic ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: microbial ecology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: microbiology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: biogeochemistry memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T15:33:49.088683' name: Adam C Mumford url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/adam-c-mumford
