His work focuses on aquatic insects and macroinvertebrates, salmonid fishes and feeding ecology, and freshwater and riparian food webs. He is involved in basic and applied research in a variety of river ecosystems worldwide, including dam removal in Arizona. His current role at USGS is at the Alaska Cooperative Fisheries and Wildlife Research Unit as the Unit Leader, in cooperation with the University of Alaska Fairbanks and partners. Jeffrey teaches courses in aquatic food web ecology and stream ecology. Jeff is a river and stream ecologist who specializes in macroinvertebrate communities, fisheries, and food webs. His research is focused on linking hydrological and geomorphic conditions in rivers to the structure of aquatic communities. He is involved in wetland mitigation in North Carolina, food web studies on the Danube River in Austria/Hungary/Serbia and glacially-fed rivers in Italy, and large dam impacts on the Colorado River and on the impacts of climate change, mining, and other stressors in Alaskan streams and rivers. additionalType: personal statement email: jmuehlbauer@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: BS - Northern Arizona University - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: MS - University of North Carolina - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: PhD - University of North Carolina hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Cooperative Research Units url: https://www.usgs.gov/programs/cooperative-research-units roleName: Research Fish Biologist startDate: '2024-05-10T20:45:23.000903' - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Unit Leader - Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Assistant Unit Leader - Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: USGS Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0003-1808-580X - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q48185 jobTitle: Research Fish Biologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Adaptive management - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Aquatic macroinvertebrates - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Climate change - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Community and ecosystem ecology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Fisheries - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Geomorphology and hydrology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Human impacts - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: River systems science - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Water quality memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-10T20:45:22.997373' name: Jeffrey D.
