After graduation, Miya remained at the Missouri WSC measuring streamflow and sediments, and assisted senior hydrologists with projects such as bathymetric surveys, flood studies, as well as stormflow events for nutrients, fecal indicator bacteria, and sediment. From 2004-2023, Miya managed a variety of projects; most of which focused on sediment and surface water affected by various issues such as extreme hydrologic events, historical lead mining, and urban runoff. Cooperative efforts have ranged from Federal to municipal, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and the City of Independence, MO. She was the Missouri Sediment Laboratory supervisor for many years, reviewing over 5,000 sediment results a year, training many employees and students, and providing technical assistance to numerous coworkers across the USGS. Over her career, Miya represented the Office of Water Quality and Office of Quality Assurance as a data reviewer on more than 10 technical reviews, has reviewed and mentored other USGS sediment laboratories, and studied the efficiency of field equipment for sediment collection. Since 2022, she has been a member of the training and testing team of the AQUARIUS Samples Integration Project.Miya became the Water Quality Specialist for the Central Midwest Water Science Center in October 2023, and has been integrating consistent workflows and processes across the Center, providing guidance and training to staff. She is also a co-instructor of the Water Quality Principles course (QW1022). additionalType: personal statement email: mnbarr@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: B.S., Geology & Geophysics, University of Missouri-Rolla, 2001 hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Central Midwest Water Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/cm-water roleName: Hydrologist (Water-Quality Specialist) startDate: '2024-05-12T16:18:44.607985' - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 2004-Present, Hydrologist, USGS CMWSC, Lee's Summit, MO - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 2000-2004, Hydrologic Technician, USGS-Missouri WSC, Rolla, MO - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 1996-2000, Hydrologic Aid, USGS-Missouri WSC, Rolla, MO identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q44672 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0002-9961-9190 jobTitle: Hydrologist (Water-Quality Specialist) knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Suspended and streambed sediment sampling - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Suspended-sediment transport and load - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Sediment chemistry - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Surface-water quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Urban stream quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Microbiology (fecal indicator bacteria) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Nutrients - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Trace elements and Trace element flux - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Nutrient flux - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Hydrology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Geomorphology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Continuous monitoring - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Mapping - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Models, Water-quality, Regression, and Surrogate - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Trends in water quality memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T16:18:44.605444' name: Miya N Barr url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/miya-n-barr
