She began working at the USGS New York Water Science Center in 2023. She has previously worked in a variety of ecosystems, from urban to rural, aquatic and terrestrial. She currently leads numerous collaborative projects that address several aspects of science related to HABs. The projects span a range of disciplines from methods development, algal community composition, fate and transport of cyanotoxins, monitoring program development and more. The goal of the HABs work at NYWSC is in part to develop tools to inform management decisions and improve our understanding of the impacts of HABs on the environment. additionalType: personal statement email: rgorney@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: "Ph.D. in Natural Resources (2014) – University of Vermont, Burlington,\ \ VT" - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: "M.S. in Natural Resources (2008) – The Ohio State University, Columbus,\ \ OH" - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: "B.S. in Biological Sciences (2002)—Binghamton University, Binghamton,\ \ NY" hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: New York Water Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/new-york-water-science-center roleName: Physical Scientist startDate: '2024-05-12T15:14:03.732490' - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: Prior to this position, Rebecca investigated HABs with the Division of Water at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (2015-2022). identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q46377 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0003-4406-261X jobTitle: Physical Scientist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Limnology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: General Water Quality - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Aquatic Ecosystems memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T15:14:03.729806' name: Rebecca M Gorney url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/rebecca-m-gorney
