'@context': https://schema.org '@type': Person affiliation: [] description: - '@type': TextObject abstract: National Map Liaison CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT with the NGP User Engagement Office additionalType: short description - '@type': TextObject abstract: Adam Benthem is the National Map Liaison for Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. additionalType: staff profile page introductory statement - '@type': TextObject abstract: "Adam studies the anthropogenic modification of rivers and land surfaces.\ \ He specializes in using remote sensing to monitor and predict landform change\ \ through time with a focus on integrating field-based site measurements with\ \ regional-scale geospatial datasets. He received his Master\u2019s Degree in\ \ Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. In 2010 he worked for\ \ the Deepwater Horizon Commission which investigated the oil spill in the Gulf\ \ of Mexico and joined the USGS in 2011. Adam's work at the USGS focuses on\ \ the mechanics of sediment transport and investigates how rivers mobilize,\ \ transport, and store sediment though the landscape. Anthropogenic changes\ \ such as dams, urbanization, industrial activity, and climate change can greatly\ \ modify natural processes of sediment transport resulting in significant changes\ \ in our Nation's rivers. This can lead to shifts in flooding, damage to infrastructure,\ \ and loss of critical ecosystems. The changes related to sediment movement\ \ operate on time scale ranging from seconds to centuries, this research address\ \ not just the issues we have today but prepares us for the challenges we will\ \ face tomorrow." additionalType: personal statement email: abenthem@usgs.gov hasCredential: [] hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: NGP User Engagement Office url: https://www.usgs.gov/ngp-user-engagement-office roleName: National Map Liaison CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT startDate: '2024-05-10T20:41:30.182873' identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0003-2372-0281 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q44804 jobTitle: National Map Liaison CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Rivers - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Geomorphology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Hydrology - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: Dams memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-10T20:41:30.179483' name: Adam Benthem url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/adam-benthem
