personal_statement: I am a Hydrologic Technician at the U.S. Geological Survey
in the New York Water Science Center in Coram, NY. I have spent 3 years with
the USGS focused on maintaining a real-time tide and continuous water-quality
network throughout Long Island. This network supports advance flood warning
for emergency managers, tidal wetland loss research, monitoring for hypoxia
and ecological health, guiding TMDLs, and sediment flux studies. I am also
currently involved in Microbial Source Tracking research to assess the geographical
and biological origins of fecal contamination to Long Island embayments and
in developing studies to better understand the occurrence of microplastics in
     the environment.
