     personal_statement: "After graduating from the University of Nebraska \u2013 Lincoln\
      \ in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology with honors as a McNair Scholar,\
      \ Eric started working in the mining industry logging core, running borehole\
      \ surveys, and analyzing subsurface structures. The volatility of the industry\
      \ coupled with the months away from his family led him to leave the world of\
      \ carbonatite behind and seek work with the USGS, an organization that he admired\
      \ for the quality of data and publications that they produced. Eric started\
      \ his career with the USGS in 2016 as a recent graduate hydrologic technician\
      \ in the Olivette, Missouri, office."
