Historical snow data have been analyzed using geographic information systems software to determine the magnitude and distribution of maximum observed equivalent water content of snowpack for the State of Maine. Data from 109 sites with an average of 43 years of record were used to generate the map of maximum observed equivalent water content. Maximum observed water content ranged from less than 8 inches in south-coastal Maine to more than 20 inches in the northwestern mountains. A map of mean equivalent water content in snowpack on or about March 1 also was prepared with data from these sites.
