I then worked as an assistant and full professor at San Diego State University, studying relationships between urbanization, fire, and invasive species on a native flora and fauna in southern California. This field-oriented research involved radiotelemetry, capture-recapture, and vegetation studies. I left San Diego State University and spent 4 years at the Illinois Natural History Survey where my research began to expand into disease ecology and agro-ecosystems. Since arriving at USGS in 2008, I have continued to expand my research focus and currently work on science related to the energy-environment nexus, ecosystem services, and applied ecology. additionalType: personal statement email: jediffendorfer@usgs.gov hasCredential: - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: University of Kansas, Ph.D., (Ecology), 1995 - '@type': EducationalOccupationalCredential name: Ohio University, BS, (Wildlife Biology), 1989 hasOccupation: - '@type': OrganizationalRole affiliatedOrganization: '@type': Organization name: Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center url: https://www.usgs.gov/centers/geosciences-and-environmental-change-science-center roleName: Research Ecologist startDate: '2024-05-12T16:19:45.744637' - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 2014- Research Scientist and Supervisor, Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center, USGS, Lakewood, Colorado - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 2008-2014 Research Scientist, Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center, USGS, Lakewood, Colorado - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 2004-2008 Associate Scientist, Illinois Natural History Survey, Champaign, Illinois - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 1998-2004 Assistant/Associate Professor, San Diego State University, San Diego, California - '@type': Occupation additionalType: self-claimed professional experience name: 1995-1998 Postdoctoral research with USGS, University of Miami, Miami, Florida identifier: - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: GeoKB value: https://geokb.wikibase.cloud/entity/Q54481 - '@type': PropertyValue propertyID: ORCID value: 0000-0003-1093-6948 jobTitle: Research Ecologist knowsAbout: - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: geospatial analysis - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: biodiversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecological competition - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecological processes - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystem diversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystem functions - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: environmental assessment - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: habitat alteration - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: habitats - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: shrubland ecosystems - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: human impacts - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: land use and land cover - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: land use change - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: spatial analysis - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: natural resource management - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: animals - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: capturing (animals) - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: endangered species - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: invasive species - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: species diversity - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: vegetation - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: vertebrates - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: wildlife - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: wildlife population management - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: field methods - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: mathematical modeling - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: mathematical simulation - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: statistical analysis - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: climate change - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: effects of climate change - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: fires - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: energy resources - '@type': Thing additionalType: self-claimed expertise name: maps and atlases memberOf: '@type': OrganizationalRole member: '@type': Organization name: U.S. Geological Survey name: staff member startDate: '2024-05-12T16:19:45.741961' name: Jay Diffendorfer url: https://www.usgs.gov/staff-profiles/jay-diffendorfer
